The Kameyama Castle

The Kameyama Castle was built in 1590 by Okamoto Munenori. The castle keep was removed in 1632 during the reign of Miyake Yasumori. When Honda Toshitsugu was the lord of the castle from 1644-1648, the current Tamon tower was built on the site of the castle keep. The tower was designated as a historic site (the sole existing castle structure in the prefecture) by the prefectural government in 1953. It has a charming rustic flavor during the cherry blossom and snow season , and the Tamon tower rising above the high stone walls still retains the atmosphere of a previous age.
